Hi! I’m laid up on the couch after getting my booster and flu shot, so I thought I’d try a new weekly thing here for paid supporters: sharing what I’m reading, watching, listening to, doing, buying, hoping, and practicing. Let me know what you think in the comments, or reply to the email. Genuinely cannot express what it means to me that y’all support this.

And dearest free subscribers, here’s a taste. I won’t spam you with this locked content again… unless it seems worth it. 🙃 (And if you can’t afford to become a paid subscriber, shoot me a note.)

Reading:

I bought a copy of Ed Yong’s ‘An Immense World’ after reading two chapters … also after the third time the library asked for it back. This was a book worth owning.

Also:

  • Sarah Miller on why pretending to like things is a scourge, and also a lot of other stuff. This piece is from 2018, but we find ‘em when we find ‘em.

  • Who faces consequences when prescribed burns run wild?

  • And this spellbound me

Listening:

I’ve started a new playlist called Shangrilogs Listening Party. My favorite songs from the week will always be added to the top. Give it a try. (Music is personal. I get it if our tastes don’t align.)

In other listening news, Anne Helen Petersen’s Townsizing podcast is right up my alley, as it gets into the allure and mystique of small towns.
