What a beautiful, beautiful post. I'm so so sorry for your loss - writing this through the tears. We said goodbye to my beloved chocolate lab this summer, and we miss him. Selectively deaf and stinking like he had no home, he had all our love.

Devastating and beautiful. What a treasure he was, as were you to him. Take care of yourself during your grief break ❤️🐾

I saw Cooper's passing on IG this morning and was afraid to read this until afternoon. I knew it was going to make me cry. I felt the pain, but interestingly enough in this particular piece of writing I felt the bravery. It takes courage to say a long goodbye to our fur babies. You did it with style, love, and grace... just like Cooper would have wanted. Carry on for Cooper. You're that person.

A great tribute to a great dog, and to great love. May we all get an ending like Cooper.

A wonderfully conceived piece of writing and deep expression of love. You nailed it Kelton - I hope it helped with your grief to be able to write so well and truly capture the essence of COOPER and all he brought to the world and to you two specifically. Lucky you. Lucky pup.

Hi Kelton. I had to come back to this piece and reread it. My beloved dog Calvin passed away this week at the age of 14. He spent his last moments in his favorite spot in our backyard, cradled by his two favorite people. Just wanted to let you know how much comfort I'm taking in these words during this awful time:

"This grief isn’t really pain — this grief is merely what happens when love passes through the veil, when you give your love for someone to take with them. And it’s worth it."

Thank you again. I hope Cooper and Calvin are causing trouble together somewhere right now. <3

Cooper looks so beautiful and sweet. I’ve been down the road of losing them too many times. It’s the price of love, I guess. Never gets easy tho. I’m a writer, too, so your title was intriguing. You used your gift to gift Cooper with lasting love. There’s nothing better than that…my three Golden Retrievers Tennessee, Dune & Jack send sloppy kisses to you & your family.

I have had three dogs and have lost two of them. All I could do was cry. Your ability to summon the strength to write about it so well amazes me.

Hey, Cooper, sorry to hear of your passing. Sounds like you had an adventurous life, but I’m guessing Ophir was the best. Happy trails.
