I co-wrote a pilot script last year that is set in my little town. It was performed at the local film festival and everyone loved the inside jokes, but most of them also asked me to not name the place when we shopped it. Sound familiar? 😉
Remember, if the government gets involved, then “no one” can’t create any new trails of maintain them anymore.
I remember going out with a MB group a couple of decades back in a state park talking about trail maintenance and new single track. There was practically no way to get the state to allow us to create new trails - nor would they do it. Ditto for maintenance. Let’s just say “no one” built and maintains mikes of single track that magically appeared after that discussion that there are now regular official MB races on the trails.
No idea ??? who bushwhacked the others major sections, though I have probably met them, a bunch of “nobodies”.
No, you can’t bushwhack a new trail, but “no one” can! Great post. 😂😂😂
Of course this piece resonates with me but in spite of that, again, it's the composition that makes it work and had me smiling and chuckling and appreciating the whole story. Good one Kelton!
I LOVED THIS. Laughed out loud at "so I could simply press the spacebar and go “yea” when Ben’s name came up" and continued doing so, or smiling, for the rest of it. You're a gem.
I just emailed this to the small group coordinating the rewriting of our Community Plan without the County which is five years overdue at updating their plan for us. Trust me the gang will be literally the rolling on the floor with laughter emoji come to life when they get to the line about "anyone with the power to put in a parking lot." Town Meetings! Home Rule! Thanks for the inspiration and for the great writing.
The "no wider than a stroller" part seems problematic ADA-wise, but maybe if you need a wheelchair or power scooter situation/are generally not fully able-bodied you couldn't reasonably live there anyway, so...? (Not the point of this post At All, I realize, that just really jumped out at me.)
There are so many things about living here that are ADA problematic. I don't think most able-bodied people want to live here to begin with 😂 but it is something we've been looking at in our own house, and factors into renovation plans. Need to make sure our people can come here.
Ben and my mom would get along. Congrats, Ben! Hopefully attendance to these meetings will increase and y'all can be have real-life Stars Hallow-type town halls.

Oh boy does it lol
I love that "rusted metal" is listed as an acceptable siding material.
😂😂

At least I know when I finally attend, it'll be great to write about.

And congratulations, I’m sorry, to Ben on his new position at the flogging post. 🙂
Can’t wait to see how it goes 😂
Your town sounds magical. The details painted a wonderful picture of the place you call home. Love it.

Oh I can only hope
