Welcome to my world. Here in California our forest fire season has gone from 4 months to 12. I used to love thunder and lightning- no more. Everyone has a to-go bag always packed and, by law, garage doors with battery back up. We keep our fuel tanks full. We have apps to warn us of fires and lists of what to grab if we have time. We monitor wind reports and can sense a RED FLAG day within seconds of being outside. We pray for rain and we scramble for homeowners insurance as more companies pull out of the state. So glad you are safe and how brave of you all to manage the front lines. These are fire, flood, hurricane, tornado, earthquake scary days we live in, in all parts of this country. Heads up!

We used to live on the California coast, and I helped manage our evacuations. I know that feeling well. God tired of having to leave my house. I do not miss those Red Flag days! Hoping for a calm season for you <3

What a stark reminder of the power and unpredictability of fire. The changes in local connectivity were chilling. I'm glad you were all able to contain it early, and I hope you're able to figure out ways to better connect with emergency services for the next one. I hate that we have to think about them in terms of when, not if 💔

Every time I read about fires I get a lump in my throat. When the billowing (black) smoke is rising high in the sky, clearly in sight, I want to leave the area forever. When I left Reno the fires were raging 3 hours away and it was utterly frightening. Haven't experienced this since 2019. Glad you're safe. As much as I miss the mountains and the desert I don't miss the fires.

Scary! I’m glad you are ok.

That's a very close fire, yikes. We had one just about as close a few times in the last ten years, and luckily the first responders were able to get them both under control quickly. Glad the same for you! The season is upon us. 💜

Glad everyone is safe. Fascinated to read this from soggy Florida. Our threats come from more predictable sources! I never considered the way a lightning strike would affect fire potential from below ground, a week later. Makes me want to get a lot better at reading nature.
