Ever since I heard you tease this on your podcast (which I’m enjoying — thank you for accompanying my walks!), I was excited to read it. I first met my now-partner Billy in real life but it wasn’t until we matched on Bumble that we both went for it — reading your relationship origin story was very validating! ❤️
It's so amazing you found your Ben! I've followed you since the DBN days and so this is just really, really fun and joy-inducing and kind of full circle to read. My first date with my partner (we matched on Hinge) was in a bookstore, because that's dreamy, and we accidentally time warped and spent 8 hours in there just walking around and talking and life and books.
What a great story! Too often you hear that the good guys like Ben get passed over for the bad boys. Lovely to see that isn't the only truth out there.
What. A. Freaking. Delight. I also met my husband swiping right and this hit me in the feels of the magic at the beginning and just the joy of falling head over heels.
What a great story with a happy in-the-middle TBD happy ending!! There is nothing better than falling in love... except staying in love, and as my husband says "forever and always, eternal flame burning." My favorite was your sharing the inside version of "I'm going fucking crazy, this is THE one."
We are both so lucky to find true love... mine wasn't official until I married for the first time at 61. So for Carl and I, please enjoy the years you have left, we're both 67 so we're happily making up a lifetime in our third act.

OMG I love a saucy diary entry! This was juicy and everything I wanted LOL. I used to detail my (very chaste) escapades on livejournal when I was younger (far less eloquently than you), and honestly, I kind of miss that. Bring back sharing spicy xangas!!!

Where was that advice for me years ago? My husband and I just hit 20 years together (nearly 17 married), and at age 43 we are polar opposites (I'm a night owl, he's an early riser) with opposite weekend habits (so I'll head your way to ski for the weekend with the kids and he heads north to golf). It's definitely an issue. *sigh* At any rate, I'm stoked for you that you and Ben align!
Was a follower with DBN - LOVE THIS. I didn't keep a journal, but I did send VERY long emails to my best friend about my dating life. Found the one about when I met my now husband. I described him as "fun" three times, and smart and funny twice. "We've had fun dates, he's super outgoing and so clearly smart and funny and he made a reservation and makes plans and doesn't seem to be playing any game here and I'm not worried about saying or doing the wrong thing, and I'm not worried about needing to talk slower or be less nerdy. I'm just being me. It is awesome. " Loved this trip down memory lane. We've been together 5 years, one toddler, one on the way.
Also went on a bad setup date around the same time and described that guy in the email as "luke-warm water", "super uninteresting and boring" and "b-team."
