"Snow swirled in like a devil searching for a body, phantom fingers curling in the air" is just so damn good.

You nailed this one Kelton. Having had a modicum of Avi training and experiencing the real thing, this was an emotional read. Glad to know you're training and thinking and training and being safe and training.......

Unbelievably frightening to read. Don’t beat yourselves up. You learned a ton. 💕

This was a brilliant read! I live on an island and often miss the snow, but Shangri-Logs makes me realize that I don't actually miss snow-snow. As in snow drifts the size of mountains or snow that buries your walkways like they never existed! Love your pix too. They're are something else!!

They sure are - makes me miss island life sometimes, but I just love these mountains. <3

Good for you for getting avy training. In early 2020, I got wrapped up and heartbroken following the saga of Canadian ultrarunner Adam Campbell whose wife Laura was buried and died while they were backcountry skiing. It happened even though they were highly trained. If you want to read about it, here is one of several good articles published on it. Take care and enjoy these calmer bluebird days! https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/exploration-survival/avalanche-tragedy-adam-campbell-laura-kosakoski/

Thank you for sharing this - definitely a sport that takes regular sobering.

This is so good! The final paragraph, pairing the two stories together is excellent and so engaging.

Thank you! Sometimes it just flows. (Sometimes not so much, hah!)
