Out the south-facing windows of this cabin, you can see what the locals call Waterfall Basin. It’s the source of our tiny town’s water supply and a backcountry playground. It was also our first foray into acquainting ourselves with our new terrain.
Love this so much and of course had tears at the end of it - a life partner who knows what will help you and a little private symbolism with the table setting. (:
So many beautiful phrases but especially love the immediate visual of "the reveries are fast and fleeting, skipping rocks through time". It called up movement & a moment of suspended time - awareness but fleeting. Keep writing Kelton - you have so much to share.
My cortisol levels dropped reading this post and looking at the beautiful photos. I'm a sponge when I read these posts; this landscape is completely unfamiliar to me and it's so fascinating!
Thank you for sharing. What a beautiful world we live in. I am envious of your cooler temperatures and high elevations. I'm currently in the Sonoran desert, so finding ways to be outside enjoying the world are constant balancing acts between heat, timing, shade, and elevation.
When you talk about mapping and learning all the things about your part of the world, it reminds me of the documentary My Octopus Teacher. It's also how I feel about where I live. I like to walk and inhabit and learn about the world around me through walks with my dog, Taz, who was also a Boston Terrier, coincidentally. Seeing Cooper photos was an added bonus. The companionship of a good dog is hard to beat, and mine was a great friend when the random panic attack would strike, too.
That's so kind, thank you! You know, I don't think I'd have the slightest idea how to teach it. I'd probably say just keep doing it - I mean in the digital world you can take a million photos and delete them (I delete 95% of the photos I take). I just look for what catches my eyes mostly.
I think hiking, laying on the ground and being in high altitude with a dog and my husband would cure what ails me. This was a beautiful share and for the moments I spent reading I was in that place with you and at peace in my mind. There's hope. Thank you.

Thank you and thank you and thank you.
My pleasure 🙏🏼
Beautiful! Reminds me of why I always knew that I would return to the mountains (and did).
And I followed suit. 💛
So beautiful! I am in awe of the photos, particularly the one of the light at dawn. It feels obvious to call it majestic, but really, what else is it?
I hope you are feeling better, more grounded, more soothed. Thank you for sharing this!

Aw Taz, that's a sweet name. They're such good little gremlins. I still haven't watched that documentary, but maybe it's time!
I love it. I couldn't figure out how he filmed the whole thing just him, no diving equipment, no camera crew, no nothing.
Even more enticing!
Love it! What a fantastic place you live in and thanks for all your great despatches.
My pleasure 🙏🏼
Loved it! Wishing for you many more days hiking and nights camping in your nourishing home turf <3
Love everything about this!!!
I was thinking about how much I love all your photos. I could use a few lessons from you in photography!

That is such a sweet thing to share back with me.
Thank you for bringing us with you. <3
An absolute treat.
I absolutely love your prose. And the mountains, too, of course.
Wow thank you!!
This is gorgeous! I’m so happy you live in such a healing place.
🙏🏼 thanks Katie. Feel very lucky.
