Did you ever read " gift of the sea" by Anne morrow Lindbergh? It addresses the problem of a wife and mother trying to find time for their craft. I love reading her. And I enjoy reading you. I'm a 80 yr old lady who lives alone with my little companion, my miniature schnauzer Reese.

SO very beautiful, thank you. I got such a lovely image of your room where you work and the desk. Christmas and all its stuff-ness makes me itch! And yet, I too, have a house full of… stuff. ❤️

The itch! I know it well.

My house is perfectly sized for the two of us empty nesters, but every nook and cranny has stuff. As long a the boxes are clearly labeled it's not hoarding. 😏 i have tons of family heirlooms which make me happy and make the house feel more...substantial.

I love this post, as i love every one of your posts. Always so beautifully written and evocative. Thank you. 💙💙

We just downsized my parents and I now have some of their “things”. I was shocked by how much warmer the house felt. You’re right—things make a home.

My parents are thankfully very, very aware of their things and how they'll make their way to me, but it is an enormity of stuff. It's funny how just a few of those things can land so perfectly.

I did the same thing...move and move and move after desperately giving piles of stuff to the thrift shop. But somehow it creeps back in. In a 1000 square foot cabin, I can't collect too much, thankfully.

A small space really does some of the work for us, huh
