“I used to write these lists when I worked at Headspace, a company that sells the kind of curated silence you can find for free in the DVD section of the library.”

Damn, this is such a good line!! 👏💜

I LOVE the description of the massage situation. I thought I was the only one who experienced that!! We might be soulmates!

"I love when Chris Corsini tells me my whole life is going to change, and then on the day it doesn’t..."

When I get really blocked, desperate, and simply out of everything I call my woo-woo therapist. She reads tarot, astrology, and whatever other modalities she uses to tell me what's in store or going on... and I wait for the change or changes to come about. I look forward with eager anticipation... and when they don't come, I have to jump in the car and take a drive to distances unknown to change the channel... and when I return, nothing changed, most of the time.

I'm getting ready to call my woo-woo therapist. I've been waiting since last September... so when you're on the road, roll the window down, feel the wind and the sun in your face and offer up a little prayer (for both of us) that things will change for the better (yes, always remember to add "for the better") and let's look for a brighter, creative tomorrow. Safe travels and remember to enjoy the views.

The “silent retreat + getting manhandled at the spa” is what my fantasies are about these days.

There is so much I admire about this post. My mom was not a very good mother (understatement) but to her credit, she let me skip school when I asked, and then she mostly ignored me. I loved the freedom. I tried to give my kids that kind of freedom and flexibility when they were little, telling them "go play" and then I'd try not to interfere; I'd remind them and myself, "When you get bored, that's when your imagination kicks in." Sometimes, kids and we just need to sleep. Take care of yourself, and I hope you can refill your well with downtime during the long drive.

Beautiful Kelton 💓💓 the work of being vulnerable and asking for help - there maybe nothing more real or important. incidentally I keep thinking of you and a book I haven’t read but could have possibly used when I became a mom ten-ish years ago. Posting it here with zero expectations: http://www.jessieharrold.com/mothershiftbook/ sending love to you and your beautiful ways (and lol the manhandling pressure. Yes to this: the request and the pride)

(For the sake of anyone seeing this: This is a joke. My mom has done the same thing to me throughout my life, during which I’ve been keeping blogs where I talk about my feelings, so that I might be okay in the talking about feelings, but she thinks the talking part means I’m not OK. When, in fact, it’s the release and the relief.)

That last bit—yes. Taking a break, a pause, a breath, a moment to recharge and refuel and get out for another round. It’s like halftime or a timeout or an aid station where we have a chance to evaluate where we’ve been and what to hang onto (or not) as we move into the next phase of the game/race.

I’m glad you’re ok and hope you feel your feet back under you soon. And have a great road trip!

Ok but I LOVE thinking of it as an aid station! That truly captures the "you have to keep going" element.

I feel like this piece is going to pop into my mind every time I stop at an aid station this summer (even if that aid station is my car/house)
