Another really good piece Kelton. Again all emotions present. Also, empathize with "Because sometimes you feel like giving things your all, like being the best version of yourself to everyone in your life, like keeping every possible fire lit… and sometimes you don’t." But I bet you try even when you don't more often than not......
‘A week recounting a still life on a laptop calls for a better writer than I am to make it interesting.’
ahem/how dare you! we’re with you, and especially, in stillness; the line of the ski blushings even pinker still-one of the best i’ve read all decade/pandemic/etc.
I really enjoyed today’s post. I liked the way you show what is happening behind the facades we all put up for the rest of the world to see. Happy to be your newest paid subscriber!
You must have returned to elevation by now. I hope your vacation was fantastic... and the aches, pains, and general hypochondriac hysteria has been banished until the next time you plan a vacation... as of now I'm knee-deep in poker dealing school and borrowing "sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't" as a Rain Man mantra while calculating betting, raises, and pots while fighting my own anxiety.
As always I enjoy your shares and a glimpse of your colorful inner life.
Oh, I enjoyed this one. It really touched me. And I feel "Gollum'ing my way to freedom" has bumper sticker potential. Think about it;) Also, enjoy the warmer climes! That writers retreat sounds enviable.
I hope I’ll see you when you’re in LA, even if (especially if?) it’s a random “hi Kelton!” when we’re passing each other on bikes. And if you’re heading up to Santa Barbara County, let me know…
Girl, have an amazing time on your trip, I am living vicariously through you right now. Bummed that pre-kid I was like "we are going to travel everywhere, do everything..." yeah... about that...
Love all of this. Here in Sedona we say you either have three houses or three jobs to live here. I think the number recently went up to four. Yes, I now have four jobs.
I recognize a tourist from the amount of sunscreen and perfume they wear when hiking, and the shiny new boots. Ha. I can actually smell them before I see them.
Coming to Sedona? If you want to join up for early coffee somewhere, let me know!!
Have fun on your trip! I love the life the world doesn't get to see. It's a fascinating thing to explore!

I am trying even when I am actively not trying because I am trying not to try. 😵💫

Appreciate you. Can’t wait to refill the wells with you.
So good!
Thank you!!
another tear jerker 😭🙏
Appreciate you - I think meeting on the bus was a precursor to the lifts.

Really appreciated reading this, Kelton. Also, I love that that jingle is your guiding mantra.
