You have cell service on the Boulder? A minor miracle. Sad to hear they aren't keeping up with the amenities. I mean, they have one job, and that is poop. Kind of like the owl parenting.

I love this story so much. I told my family about Whet’s journey and I teared up myself.

I'm in love with your one on one with wildlife. Owls are beautiful. You're so lucky to have your mom as a guide in these matters.

Have fun on the Aquarius trail and try to stay healthy :)

Great piece... Happy Sunday!

Awesome stuff. Can't believe how beautiful that bird (and every creature, actually) is. If you have time, I'd like to know why you did that with the pronouns. I'm old and "schwer from Begriff" (I understand only with difficulty). I thought these pronouns were used for people who choose them? Why they/them for an animal who just don't a give a what? I#m assuming you're time-pressed, so no biggie if you attack other challenges. Thanks for this.

It’s a practice in challenging my own deference to use “he” when I don’t know a gender - I’ve deferred to using a male pronoun all my life and I’m trying to encourage my mind to be more flexible and curious in all scenarios. Obviously the owl doesn’t care, and there was no way for me as a lay person to tell the owl’s sex, so I just hopped around between pronouns for the week, practicing being more flexible in my thinking. Just a brain exercise!

That's cool. I can respect that. Great article either way. I love the reality of living in a log home (#58, for example).
